Big Finish Reviews | Spare Parts

Hello! I haven't written a post on here in a while, so it'll be great to get back to reviewing some stuff more often. If you don't know, we now have a podcast, so be sure to check that out in the link on the homepage. Today, I'm gonna review the 2001 Big Finish story, Spare Parts . This story really pushed Big Finish to new places, and I thoroughly recommend giving it a listen. Beware: Spoilers lie ahead. The Mondasian Cybermen, ever since I first watched World Enough and Time // The Doctor Falls , have captivated me for the sheer creepiness and grittiness that they emit. The disfigured, cloth face and the haphazard tubing and chest unit make these cybermen the scariest looking, and combined with the out-of-tune, tone-shifting, almost broken voice and the primary focus on actually turning humans into Cybermen these Cybermen are far and away my favourite. 2001's Spare Parts is a brilliant look into their horrifying creation, but the story is refreshingly simple. Classic Reviews | City of Death

Ahh, Britbox. With the BBC and ITV's new streaming service, I've been able to watch many more Classic Stories, and I'm building up the bank of them a lot more. Here I will review the Season 17 Classic that is The City of Death. I love this episode. I think it's probably the story in the Classic Series that feels most like the New Series, what with the Timey-Wimey plot, big locations, and humour. The story is so enjoyable. We start of with a really nice shot of a spaceship lifting off and failing, which feels out of place with the rest of the first two parts, but then ties in at the end. After that beautiful shot, Romana II and the 4th Doctor land in Paris. Not green screen Paris, mind you, actual Paris, with the Eiffel Tower and all. Classic Reviews | Ghost Light

Ghost Light is one of the most mysterious and confusing stories of the Classic Series. Beyond the initial strangeness, what did I actually think of this story? It starts with Ace and The Seventh Doctor arriving in a mysterious house. I must admit, I didn't really understand the first part, but I think there's a Neanderthal in a house with some very creepy people. Eventually, they bring back this guy called Light, who does some things. As you can tell, this story is very mysterious, and I do sort of get it, but it would be so hard to explain properly. Just watch it, because, although strange, it's incredible . Despite not truly getting it, it was just very well made, and had an excellent atmosphere. I think probably you have to watch it to actually understand. Sylvester McCoy puts in a cracking performance as Doctor Seven, and it really feels like he's in control.
