When the 12th Doctor Regenerated into the 13th, the TARDIS screen said 'Multiple Operations Failure.' Could this mean something more? I think so.
It would be so mind boggling. What if the entirety of the Chibnall / Whittaker era, from The Woman Who Fell to Earth to The Timeless Children has actually been in a separate universe? What if the Woman fell to a different earth, through a strange crack in the fabric of reality, like in 2006's Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel?
I heard of this theory on Twitter and Youtube, but as far as I know it isn't very famous. I have developed it more, and here I will explain the reasons I have for believing this, followed by what could happen next.
So without further ado, Let's get started.
Reasons For This Theory
1. It explains the Ruth Doctor's existence. I know, I know, Chibs said that Ruth was literally the Doctor, and not parallel or anything, as I will explain later, but our Chibs does like to tell little sorts of lies that aren't quite lies to give us red herrings. He did that sort of thing with Series 11, when he said that there would be 'No returning villains' in Series 11. He was speaking the truth, but he did bring the Daleks (or just one Dalek) back for Resolution. That way, he was technically not lying, but he still led us to believe one thing, only before subverting our expectations. I think, just maybe, he is doing the same thing with Ruth. Note he said Ruth isn't a Parallel Doctor. I think she is a Doctor from a Parallel universe, but not a Parallel 13th Doctor. Maybe she is the Parallel 3rd Doctor, or even 1st Doctor? That way, like with Resolution, Chibnall could say that he wasn't lying saying that the Fugitive Doctor wasn't parallel, as she isn't parallel to the 13th.
2. It explains the Master. When the Doctor's greatest foe returned to our screens in Spyfall: Part 1, Firstly, he was alive - and we had seen John Simm's master kill Michelle Gomez' master in The Doctor Falls definitively without regeneration. But, of course, the master often survives, so that one isn't bulletproof. The real giveaway for me, is that the Master is bad all of a sudden, after his apparent transformation in Series 10's finale. If the Doctor has been in a parallel universe, it would explain both of these things, and give a legitimate reason for the Master turning bad again.
3. It explains why Gat and the Ruth Doctor didn't know about the Time War. One thing that confused me a lot from The Fugitive of the Judoon was that The Ruth Doctor and her Enemy Time Lord Gat didn't have a clue about the Time War. I understand that Time Lords aren't allowed to travel through time on Gallifrey itself, so you could brush it aside and say they are from the past (although I doubt it because our Doctor didn't know anything about Gat and The Ruth Doctor can only fit in between Troughton and Pertwee and not before Hartnell due to her having a Police Box TARDIS.) But even if Gat and the Ruth Doctor are from our Doctor's past, The Time War has been fought from across time, and in Big Finish audios, Classic Doctors have met Time War Daleks and people from the Time War, so surely other Time Lords have. But if this theory is true, it would neatly explain why Gat and the Ruth Doctor didn't know about The Time War, and why our Doctor didn't know about Gat.
4. It explains the Timeless Child. Did no one except me find it weird that The Doctor in all her lives never found out about The Timeless Child, until pretty much as soon as she regenerated into the 13th Doctor (And fell through a crack in the Fabric of reality if this theory is true) she was told about it in The Ghost Monument. Secondly, it explains why the Doctor is the Timeless Child in this universe that she fell into, but not actually in the normal universe.
5. It explains Jack's sudden return. When Captain Jack returned in Fugitive of the Judoon, what if he actually had travelled to this new universe to Find the Doctor and bring her back to the Normal universe? What if the Normal universe we know and love is being ruled by The Daleks, or better, OMEGA in the absence of the Doctor? Captain Jack is the kind of guy that would travel across universes to find The Doctor...
6. It would explain Orphan 55. Orphan 55 was a pile of rubbish. But I did wander whilst watching why we saw earth in a much better way in countless other stories, like The Long Game, The End of the World, The Moonbase, and the Dalek Invasion of Earth. This theory would explain why Orphan 55 gave us an earth where Humans were destroyed and Earth became a wasteland.
7. It would explain why Humans don't remember meeting Aliens. In The Woman Who Fell To Earth, The Humans say they don't know of any Aliens. I know that all alien invasions had been forgotten from before Series 5 after the Crack swallowed them up, but there have been many invasions since then, from the Shakri, and the Zygons, and the Monks. If the theory is correct, it would explain why all these invasions have been 'forgotten.'
8. It would explain why The Cybus Cybermen were fighting in the Cyber Wars. Now this one's a bit of a stretch, but bear with me. In The Nightmare in Silver, we get our best look at the middle of the Cyber Wars. In the 2013 Story, the Cybermen fighting in the war are those rubbish ones that don't even really look like Cybermen. But at the end of this new Universe's Cyber Wars, The Cybermen have still been fighting with the older, Cybus style Cybermen. It would explain this trivial bit of costuming choice. This one isn't rock hard, but it's evidence.
So there's a whole bunch of evidence. Where could they go with this? Who knows? They could, as I said a bit earlier, make Jack come back and rescue the Doctor (which could explain Ryan and Graham's departure later this year...) and bring her back to a war torn universe... The Possibilities are truly endless, and I'm sure, that if this is true, it will play a big role in Chibnall's Five Year Plan, and possibly the 60th Anniversary in 2023.
If this is real, then, when will Chibnall tell us? I would imagine the Finale of Series 13 at the latest, or maybe even Revolution of the Daleks with Jack and all.
Now remember, I could be barking up completely the wrong tree. It would be a very bold move to do this, but I can imagine that fans would love it.
